Newstead is a thriving, vibrant town on the Loddon River in Central Victoria, 15 minutes from Castlemaine and about 1.5 hours north-west of Melbourne. when you visit - you'll find a cafe, two pubs, motel and bed breakfast accommodation, antique and collectable shops, vineyards and artist's studios.
We are home to a kindergarten, a primary school, a swimming pool and football, netball and tennis facilities. There are spots for picnics and a butcher, a baker and supermarket and a children's playground.
Across the year Newstead is host to the Short Story Tattoo - Australia's only festival dedicated to the short story, Newstead Live - a festival of folk, world and acoustic music, and of course CHOPPED. The community has been a great supporter of Chopped over the past nine years allowing us to take over the sleepy little town each year in October. It is therefore important that as an attendee of Chopped you are respectful of our township, its facitlities and its people so that we can continue to provide an awesome festival in a beautiful setting with our community's support.
